Sweet Girl — A Bittersweet Disappointment
I had very high hopes for this Momoa film, but the writers let me down.
I’ll be the first to say that I love Jason Momoa. I think he’s a refreshing personality in Hollywood, and I haven’t seen a role of his I haven’t liked in some way, including his role in Sweet Girl.
It’s too bad that Sweet Girl turned into a major disappointment.
I’d rate it a solid 5/10, only because the cast was good and their acting done well, but the writing was horrible. With plot holes, cliches and an overabundance of coincidences, this film came across as a very rough first draft of a script rather than the final product that went on to market and made it to Netflix.
Spoilers past this point.
Full of promise, this film came with the premise of an aggrieved husband out for revenge after the affordable drug his cancer ridden wife needs to survive is pulled off the market by an overpriced competitor in order to maintain profits.
I was excited. Jason Momoa taking on big pharma and exposing them for the scumbags they are with some Momoa style action involved? Fuck yes.
This was my initial thought process of the film after the trailer and the first few scenes and I was here for it.
